A few waterfalls near the Knuckles Forest Reserve: Hidden waterfalls in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is home to many sensitive wet forests. Sinharaja rainforest and Knuckles forest are just two of them. The Knuckles Mountain Range is regarded as one of the most picturesque locations in Sri Lanka. Many magnificent waterfalls can be seen, tucked away beneath the dense forest cover. You don’t need to enter the Knuckles Forest to see waterfalls. There are a few waterfalls near the boundary area of the Knuckles Forest Reserve. A few of them are named Huluganga Falls, Thaliyawatuna Ella (Alakola Ella), Jodu Ella, and Saree Ella. I got a chance to visit them, and the pictures can be seen in this article. Most of them are untouched, less crowded places, so you can enjoy and relax to the fullest if you visit them.
All the waterfalls I mentioned here are easily accessible through a village called Bambarella. Bambarella is a very rural area, nearly 40 kilometers away from the hill capital, Kandy City. There are trails to go to some of these waterfalls, but you need to ask the locals for the exact road because you can get lost on those trails.
01. Huluganga Ella Falls
Huluganga Falls is incredibly beautiful and will quickly attract you. It is situated on the Knuckles Mountain Range’s border. It is easy to get to the waterfall from Kandy Town. Because it is such an important part of their culture, the local community in the area adores this waterfall.
02. Thaliyawatuna Ella Falls (Alakola Ella)
Thaliyawatuna Ella is another notable waterfall in the Knuckles Mountain Range. The height of this waterfall is approximately fifty meters. The waterfall is sometimes referred to as Alakola Ella because of its location within Alakola Estate. You’ll be mesmerized by the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings once you arrive at the waterfall, even though the road leading there can be very challenging.
03. Jodu Ella Falls
Jodu Ella, also known as the Twin Falls, is the name given to two identical waterfalls that have a seductive cascade. Bambarella Knuckles Falls is another name for these waterfalls. The waters of this waterfall also flow into the Mahaweli River, like other waterfalls.
04. Saree Ella Falls
Saree Ella waterfall is one of the most well-known and stunning waterfalls in the Knuckles mountain range. It looks like a lady’s saree, so that’s the reason it got that name. The Gomara region is home to this waterfall. There is an amazing pool for a natural bath beneath this waterfall. Indeed, we had a bath in that pool. It seems safer to take a bath there.
These waterfalls are true hidden gems in Sri Lanka. You need to visit there to enjoy the true beauty of these untouched waterfalls. If you visit there, keep in mind that you only leave your footprints there. Don’t pollute the environment in this sensitive area. You are free to get unlimited photos to memorize the trip. Don’t take anything that belongs to the forest reserve, and don’t pollute it. We must save these for the future.
